In other news, although I'm still hacking up a lung and fighting a cough, the house is finally rid of this awful cold/sinus/whatever the hell bug we all had.
Matt had a photo shoot Sunday afternoon and both the model AND the Makeup Artist showed up! YAY!

Our dear White Russian turned 30 yrs old, and we hosted a small gathering at the casa. As it was an unusually cool weekend for Atlanta in July, we had it outside on the deck, with tiki torches lit. I guess it wasn't too cool for mosquitos (nasty little buggers!). James had homemade blueberry cake from the Bulgarians, and Matt and I gave him a bottle of Johnny Walker Black. We had light snacks of strawberries, bing cherries, blueberries, cheese wedges, chips, and salsa (homemade with those weird purple hull peas from the CSA farmer's thingie). Delish!
BTW check out James' website: www.viterashn.com.

Cousin Tara and her family met us for brunch at Atkins Park on Sunday also. In spite of the unlucky battery situation in their vehicle. No worries, it was the kind of day where nothing could make you upset, and we just dealt with and moved on. Sweet! It was a lovely weekend. Sunny, breezy, cooler than normal, oh yes and I got my hair done (it always feels SO good to have freshly colored/styled hair!).
-
Lastly, my monthly visit to the liquor store, didn't turn up any St. Germaine Elderberry Vodka, or Gran Centenario Rosangel Tequila, but I did find the Asombroso Rose Reposado, and that was good enough for me.

Have a great night with Three Sheets everyone! and may your week be prosperous also!

Easter Weekend and Recipe for Teriyaki Sauce

Saturday Night was a nice reunion with our dear White Russian, who had returned from Vegas for a brief break. We dined on Fried Rice and Teriyaki Chicken. This brings me to my recipe for the day.
-
How to make Teriyaki Sauce with what's in the kitchen:
Ingredients needed: Soy Sauce, Ground Ginger (from the spice rack), Syrup or Sugar or whatever sweetener you usually cook with if you are low-carb dieting, Sesame Oil or Sesame Seeds.
In Skillet, pour some soy sauce (I used about 2 cups), squeeze in 1/3 cup of Syrup (I used Aunt Jemima's Lite), shake a good tablespoon of ground ginger over this mixture, and a dash of Sesame Oil. Heat to a light simmer, stirring frequently to get the ginger to mix in all the way. Voila! You can add more of a specific ingredient to taste (say if you like it more salty then add more soy, etc).
CAUTION: Soy Sauce has wheat gluten in it, so if you are trying to eat gluten free, then you need to buy specifically labled "gluten-free soy sauce" - I know they don't tell you that up front.
-
After dinner, we hung out talking and drinking and just having a good ole time. Matt lit a fire in the fireplace, and it was just a relaxing evening. My sinuses had been acting up that morning, but by the evening time, I was feeling just perfect. I even had a cuban seed cigar. oh yes I would pay for it later, I thought.
But no.
Just before bedtime, I took my generic Zyrtec-D, and drank an "Urban Detox" which is specially formulated to benefit sinus and lung functions.
And guess what?
Function: Urban Detox Drink really works, or the Zyrtec helps it work better, whatever. Anyway I'm sold!

Easter Sunday was just gorgeous! Sunny with a light breeze, and highs in the 70s. We did a Goldberg's Bagel run, and hung out on the porch/deck almost all day long. Matt and I had the leftover chinese food for lunch, and then for dinner we grilled out. Burgers/Spicy Sausage and sides of broccoli, corn, and potato-au-gratin puffs.
We wound down the evening with a movie "YES man" - Jim Carey. Hysterical! I highly recommend it. We were laughing so hard, I even woke up laughing about it. Great movie!

Monday's weather is a bit odd. It's raining sideways, it's cold (50s), branches/leaves/debris all over the road, some of the traffic lights are out, but I came to work anyway.

Of White Russians and Sirloin . . .

Well you know you're doing well fitness-wise when you have a fun/wine-induced weekend like I did, with hardly any sleep on Saturday night, and the Wii-Fit tells you you haven't gained ANY weight from it! I mean I usually go up and down 2 lbs over the weekend on a light-non-party weekend. But I MAINTAINED! woo hoo!
-
now, if I can only start the numbers going DOWN . . .
-
Last night, our "white-russian" James came over for a photoshoot and dinner. Bless his heart, I will miss him dearly. He's moving to Las Vegas for Medical School, next week. Sigh. Not only is he one of those wonderfully zen, calm, and philisophical folks, but he's very GQ too. One of those really good friends to sit on the porch and puff on a stogie or sip red wine with, and talk about anything, or philosophize (is that a word?) with. Matt took some fabulous portraits of him. I am not sure if they will be posted or not, but I really enjoyed them. Go James Bond! We dined on Sirloin Steaks, Green Beans, and Au Gratin Potato Balls. Thank Goodness for Omaha Steaks! Of course, I don't buy from Omaha Steaks unless they are having one of those $60 specials.
-
Sunday is the Mikamy Meadows Party! YAY! I bought all the party supplies/food last night.
-
Funny news about Matt - he's suddenly into Pellegrino. I think it's adorable.
-
Disturbing news: Gay Man Offended by Bible - did he JUST NOW read it? Is he going to sue the Koran publishers too? We all know what the Bible says on that topic. WTF - are we supposed to censor the bible now? Idiotic lawsuits. And supposedly the man is representing himself too. Gee that's a great idea. ***In a recently released statement, a Zondervan spokesperson wrote: "Zondervan doesn't translate the Bible or own the copyright for any of the translations. Instead [our] company relies on the scholarly judgment of credible translation committees."***
I have nothing personally against Gay people - don't misunderstand me, but my goodness this is ridiculous! This case holds about as much water as the Victoria Secret Thong lawsuit. Gimme a break!
I "get offended" at the Bible too, but usually because it's putting my dumb*ss back in line and I don't want to be corrected, etc. and for gosh sakes, I get offended by lots of things I read, but that doesn't mean I go around suing every newspaper, magazine, or book publisher out there. geez louise. blahg!
