Sobering up to Reality

Photo Credit goes to Matthew Lane of www.zazenphoto.com
Dreaming is one thing. However, the holidays are upon us. Now is NOT the time to be buying new furniture, when there are gifts to purchase. Yes I already have a couch. Yes it is still in good condition. However, it doesn't support my back very well, and I tend to get out of alignment when I sit in it for long periods of time. So what? My friends and dog love the couch. I will compromise by doing the lotus pose on the floor while watching TV. That's better for my back anyway right?
-
Besides, I not only dream of a new couch, but I want a King-sized platform bed with a relax-the-back tempura-pedic mattress. Oh sure, if you have about $4000. oh well. I am so over the sleep number bed idea, been there, done that, didnt' love it. I can survive for now with my J-pillow & cervical pillow, and china gel applications. right?

Well, this weekend we are visiting the family and meeting Matt's Aunt & Uncle up in Tennessee for a artisan/craft show thing. It's for wholesale buyers I hear, so we probably won't shop too much, but it will be nice to see everyone again.
-
I'm just cringing because this is the fattest I have EVER been in my life, and I can't blame it on anything like pregnancy to get away with it. Nope. I just love food and wine, and my day job is me sitting on my rear-end for 8 hrs doing reports and scheduling. So I'm getting fat. Working out is not helping me at this point, but I cannot tell you why. It's like my body is saying "oh yeah? screw you, you can work out all you want, but you're STUCK!" ha! well we'll see about that. I haven't been dragging my butt out of bed at 5am every other day to hit the YMCA for nothing.
-
Holiday stress is hopefully not going to be bad this year. I have a couple of nifty gifties already and have planned out the rest. The only dilemma (which we solved last night) was WHICH family to visit WHEN and the logistics, etc. Looks like we are planning to stay HERE for Thanksgiving, but still deciding what we are doing for Christmas and afterwards.
-
Whew, it would be nice if we could suddenly find a couple of thousand dollars laying around someplace that we forgot about. Yeah right. Toodle-loo for now.

Thursday - worked all day, crappy day at work, then Aunt Susan & Uncle Tom met us for Dinner at Carrabba's and we caught up on family news. There are 2 weddings coming up in October in Florida. WOO HOO!
Unfortunately, Matt and I are going on a cruise and will miss them both. Bummer. But at least we are missing them due to a cruise, not work or something boring. YAY!
-
Friday was a spontaneous adventure. Driving home after work's worst week ever (I do not believe I'm exaggerating here), my stressed out-self resolved to meet the hubby at Tijuana Joe's for a nip of something potent and a bite of chips and salsa/queso.
To my pleasant surprise, my dear friend Kat was there with the rest of the RBS crew. Girl-talk commenced, and then an invitation to join them for dinner at Rumi's Kitchen - a delightful Persian restaurant. We dined on some fabulous food (Rumi's Dip, Roasted Salmon, Jekyl Wine) - oh it was divine!
Then home to hang out with my sweetie pie!
-
Saturday AM - I was oncall, and work woke me up with a page at 8:50am. arggg!!!! but it was all right by 9:30am. sigh.
Matt got a nice massage from our fave massage therapist, and then we went to the mall. Matt wanted to get an iPhone, but the line was insane. We went to Home Depot instead to get a present for a friend's Birthday.
Then the Birthday Party was AWESOME!
This party had grandparents, parents, singles, kids, and babies, and EVERYBODY got along and had a blast. Yes there was alcohol at the party, but that wasn't the reason. It was just that magical kind of day where the sun shines down and everybody is in a good mood.
Somehow, quite by accident, I was the one who made the crying babies or kiddies start laughing again. My babysitter instincts kicked in and it was so much fun. Oh yeah and although I didn't drink one (I'm low-carbing it), I learned how to make a Mojito in a hurry (they make theirs with spiced dark rum, ginger ale, lime juice, and mint), very very tasty supposedly.
I had to leave the party early (8pm), the kids begged me to stay but I couldn't. Since it was my week to work the Sunday Maintenance Window, and as fate would have it, it was FOUR hour window. I woke up at 1:30am with a nasty headache from the party (no not hangover headache, more like a back-out-of-alignment-from-lifting-50lb kids all night headeache). I suffered through until about 6:30am then I got back to sleep until 10:30am.
On the upside, I DID get some homework done for a project, and fixed that stupid Denon UD-m50 CD player that was stuck. I figured out that I was the one who broke it by putting 2 cd's into a 1cd slot I fixed it, tested it, then put it back together, and plugged it in to all the speakers/wires. then it decided not to work. So I took it apart again, then it worked. I put the cover back on, it was broken. I loosened the last 2 screws and WHAT THE HECK - it worked. I'll be darned why 2 loose screws a good cdplayer makes, but yippee!
-
Sunday - we stayed home while I tried to recover from the night before, and then we did a small photoshoot for a project, and then went to bed very early.

Wii Fit

We pre-ordered the Wii Fit. In our endless quest of trying to get Fit, and hoping that the new, next best toy would be the answer to our fitness issues.
-
yeah I'm lovin the Wii Fit. It works only if I do it every day for 30 mins a day.
I've been pretty good about doing it, but not getting my full 30 mins which is why I'm not losing weight very quickly. however, I can tell it is working slowly but surely.
There's all these exercises, and the program gives you "fit credits" or minutes for each exercise.
If you do an exercise and you don't do it correctly or you are too shaky (it measures your core balance, etc), then it will only give you 1 min even if you worked out for 3. So, by that standard, you COULD be on it for 1 hr, but it may have only credited you the 30 mins of "fit credits" you did. Also, you have to navigate thru the menus to do different exercises. IT's not just one big workout, and navigating the menus can eat up your time also. So usually if I was REALLY good, I could do a 45 min timeframe of working out on it, and get 30 mins of "fit credits" and then I'm meeting the bare minimum they recommend. There are some really good yoga moves on there. I like it.
-
It's great for the core though, I need to get my abs in shape now.
-
Matt needs to do it more consistently. The program is funny, it will ask me "how is Matt doing? I haven't seen him in a while" and such. It will actually gently "scold" you if you don't do it often enough. so cute. I need the motivation though! it's not evil/mean tho, it's just matter of fact. Matt finally got on there once when he had missed 13 days. It gave him a hard time about being inconsistent, but also it said it missed him. LOL.
-
The other spiffy thing, is that you can just turn it on to weigh yourself and get your BMI for the day, and then turn it off and go workout elsewhere. It has a screen where I can input time for the workouts I did away from home, and then it gives you a nice graph of your weight loss (or gain).
-
It gives you tips on sleeping better, eating better, etc.
-
Once when I weighed myself after being off it for 3 days, I had gained 2 lbs. So the program asked me why I thought I had gained. It had this list like "drinking too much" , "snacking too much" etc. Hilarious! You can't progress to the next screen without confessing your "Sins" haha.
-
damn vacation - I gained FOUR lbs. What a depressing number! blah.
